Stuttgart is a Neckar River (Rhine River) cruise port and largest city in Baden-Wurttemberg state (southern Germany). By population (around 630,000, metro over 5,3 million) the city is ranked Germany's 6th largest (after Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt) and 4th largest metro area (after Rhine-Ruhr, Rhine-Main, Berlin-Brandenburg). State's second largest by population is Karlsruhe. Stuttgart city is just at 1 hour river travel distance from Schwarzwald (Black Forest).

Wine and beer production are another major economic contributor. The city is Germany's only one with vineyards located within the urban area / districts Rotenberg, Uhlbach, Untertürkheim).
