Vavaʻu Islands are an archipelago in Tonga consisting of one large island (Utu Vavau) plus 40 smaller isles. The island group has total area approx 138 km2 (53 mi2) and population around 15,000. There are a total of 70 islands, of which only 17 are inhabited.

District's capital city (Neiafu) is Tonga's 5th largest. Vavau's economy is based on agriculture (mainly vanilla), fishing and tourism. Here are also cultured giant clams and pearls. Vavau Islands are a very popular ship travel destination (especially for yachting) and one of Tonga's major tourist sites. From May through October, Port ’Utu Vavau meets sail boats from all over the globe. Diving is very popular as it allows exploring island's underwater caves.
