Yangon (port locode MMRGN), fka Rangoon, is an Irrawaddy River cruise port in Myanmar (aka Burma). The city was also ancient Burma's capital.

Ocean-going cruise ships to Rangoon dock at Port Thilawa (port locode MMTLA).

The city occupies the site of a 2500-year-old town known as Okkala.

The city's history revolves around the Shwedagon Pagoda (dating back to the original settlement) and adorned with a total of 5417 diamonds plus 2317 other precious stones. Also very popular as attractions are Botataung Pagoda, Kaba Aye Pagoda, Sule Pagoda. Other tour destinations are People's Park, National Museum, Wildlife Park, and Zoological Garden.

The current city was constructed by a British officer (Lieutenant Fraser) who, as believed, also constructed Singapore.

The city was laid out on a chessboard pattern, with roads running East to West and North to South. Britain controlled Burma from the late 19th century until 1937.
