Carnival Elation cabins review

The Carnival cruise ship Elation has a total of 33 wheelchair-accessible cabins (for disabled passengers) and no Spa cabins (which typically offer exclusive access to Spa Carnival facilities). The ship offers 19 different cabin categories.

Connecting staterooms ("family cabins") are available in the following grades: 2 beds (4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, 6E, 8B, 8C) and 2-3 beds (6B, 6C, 6D). Handicap-accessible cabins (33 in total) are available in categories GS–Grand Suite (4), JT–Junior Suite (2), Balcony (5), Oceanview (10), and Interior (13).

During Carnival Elation's drydock refurbishment in 2017, 38 new cabins were added, including 2 Grand Vista Suites (GV), 22 Junior Suites, 2 Scenic Oceanview cabins (6J), and 12 Interior cabins. Balconies were also added to 98 existing cabins (on decks 5–Main, 6–Upper, 7–Empress). This modification increased the ship's passenger capacity from 2,052 (max 2,606) to 2,128 (max 2,554).

Below is an overview of Carnival Elation's staterooms, including amenities, furniture, and complimentary services:

Carnival Elation Suites (Grand Vista, Grand, Junior) feature 1 King bed (convertible to twins), a double sofabed (Grand), and a single sofabed (Junior), a living area (walk-in closet, drawers, vanity table, chair), private bathroom (toilet, shower, whirlpool bathtub, double sinks), and a private balcony (table and patio chairs). Category OB–Junior Suites have an obstructed view.

The two Grand Vista Suites (GV category, forward on Deck 14) feature walk-in closets, floor-to-ceiling windows with bow views, and step-out balconies with low tables and patio chairs. Category ES refers to Grand Suites with Extended Balconies, located aft with larger verandas.

Both Scenic Oceanview cabins (forward on Deck 14) offer floor-to-ceiling slanted windows with bow views. Standard Oceanview cabins have a large picture window, twin beds (convertible to a queen), a bathroom with a shower, and a living area. Some feature Pullman bunk beds for a third or fourth guest.

Interior cabins with windows (category PT) include one porthole window, two twin beds (convertible to a queen), a bathroom with a shower, and a living area with a vanity and seating. Small Interior cabins offer upper/lower Pullman bunk beds, a vanity with chair, and a bathroom with a shower.

All Carnival Elation staterooms feature standard complimentary amenities, including a living area (vanity and seating), smart HDTV (with infotainment system, Internet, on-demand movies, reservations, Room Service ordering), direct-dial phone, electronic safe, lifejackets (in the closet), hairdryer, en-suite bathroom (toilet, shower, single sink vanity, bathrobes, amenity basket replenished upon request), custom-made beds (Carnival Comfort Bed System), beach towels, mini-bar/fridge, individual air conditioning, and complimentary 24-hour room service. Bibles (Gideon version) are available upon request.

The Carnival Sail & Sign card (cashless onboard credit account) also serves as the stateroom key. The program allows purchases and gratuities to be charged directly to a personal account throughout the cruise. The card is assigned to each passenger (including minors) upon boarding and is required for all monetary transactions on board, as cash is only accepted in the casino. Account balances can be checked at the Guest Services desk or via the interactive TV in each stateroom.

Depending on satellite reception and the ship's location, complimentary in-cabin TV programming includes ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CNN (Domestic, International, Español), TCM (classic movies), Boomerang and Cartoon Network, TNT, and TBS. Two complimentary movie channels show a new film every three hours starting at noon—one for all-time favorites (PG-13 rated), and the other for family favorites (G/PG-rated). Carnival-themed channels include Fun Finds TV, Cruise Director, Fun Aboard, Park West Art, Shore Tours, Ship Position, live webcam views (forward and Lido Deck), Audible Funtimes, Photo, and Music. Sporting events (ESPN, ESPN 2) are shown only on the big screens in the ship’s Sports Bar and Seaside Theatre, not in cabins or suites. All TV connection ports are disabled, preventing the use of personal devices (e.g., cameras, DVDs, USBs, iPods, game consoles).

Bathroom amenities vary, so guests are encouraged to bring their own. Samples may include toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss, body lotion, razor, and antacids. Wall-mounted dispensers in showers provide liquid soap and shampoo. Power outlets are located at the desk/vanity area: one 110 V outlet (3-prong, US standard) and one 220 V outlet (European standard). The bathroom's 2-pin outlet is only suitable for electric razors.

Carnival beds are European-made and exclusive to the brand. The bedding ensemble includes custom "New Generation" 100% cotton pillows, hypoallergenic satin-striped duvets and pillowcases, deluxe cotton sheets, and 8-inch (20 cm) spring mattresses ("Carnival Comfort" trademark). Non-allergenic bedding is also available, including 100% polyester blankets, cotton-polyester blend sheets and pillowcases, and New Generation pillows. Note: Trundle beds do not feature Carnival Comfort mattresses.

Carnival-logoed beach towels are provided in each cabin for shore use and may be purchased for $22. Bathrobes (2) are available in all suites. Additional robes are provided upon request. In all other accommodations, bathrobes are available upon request during the first evening’s turndown service. Bathrobes are available for purchase at $49 (adult size) and $24 (children sizes 2–4 and 6–8).

Lifejackets are for emergency use only and not for use in ship pools. They are located in each cabin’s closet and come in adult, child, and infant sizes. Cabin safes are also located in the closet, with approximate dimensions of 10 in x 9 in x 8 in (25 cm x 23 cm x 20 cm). Safes may be accessed with any magnetic strip card, though it is advised to use an old or non-financial card. Some safes operate via personal code keypads. Ship security can open all safes if necessary.

Mini-bars in cabins and suites are stocked with premium liquors ($6–$9.25), beer ($6.25), energy drinks ($5), soft drinks ($2), and bottled water ($3.75). In-cabin babysitting is not available. Cribs are provided free of charge upon request. Main Dining Rooms offer complimentary high chairs and booster seats.

Smoking is not permitted in cabins, suites, or on balconies. Onboard smoking areas for cigarettes and e-cigarettes include Jekyll and Hyde Nightclub (except on the dance floor), designated areas in the Casino and Casino Bar, and on Deck 10 starboard (main pool area), which also permits cigar and pipe smoking.

Funville@Sea is a complimentary intranet service offering information on onboard activities, events, bar and restaurant menus, deck maps, the Fun Times newspaper, FunAshore guides, Carnival cruise news, itinerary weather reports, and an onboard social network. Access is available via the infotainment system in all cabins and at FunHub stations around the ship.

As of the current policy, Carnival Elation’s daily gratuities are USD 12.95 per person for standard cabins and USD 13.95 for suite guests. Suite perks include priority embarkation, debarkation, and tendering, main dining room reservations, complimentary bottled water in cabins, one free bag of laundry per cruise, and enhanced turndown service.

Since 2017, Carnival allows guests to customize their steward service by selecting morning, evening, or twice-daily service. Additional amenities such as bathrobes, extra pillows, blankets, and hangers, as well as the frequency of bed linen changes, can be requested via a service menu card placed in each stateroom. If no preferences are indicated, housekeeping will default to twice-daily service.

Furniture and layout details for Carnival Elation’s cabins can be found on the stateroom plans provided above.
