Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ ship Borealis completed multimillion-pound refurbishment at Cammell Laird shipyard close to Liverpool (England), becoming the first liner to undergo works at the site for 25+ years.

Borealis arrived on October 28th for a 14-day refit, including steel repairs, an overhaul of the shafts/propellers along with a new application of underwater paint, supported by 150+ members of Cammell Laird’s workforce.

The vessel sailed out of Cammell Laird’s Birkenhead site at noon on Saturday, November 12th, ready to welcome passengers back onboard for a voyage in search of the Northern Lights, which left the port city on Sunday, November 13th.

Borealis joined the fleet of Fred. Olsen back in 2020, and has called Liverpool her homeport since sailings restarted in 2021, offering 50+ cruises from the city. A report to the culture and visitor economy committee earlier in 2022 found Borealis had contributed GBP 2.25+ million to the local economy via using Liverpool as her homeport.

The ship's upcoming sailings from the port include the opportunity to visit both Northern & Western Europe, including a special 2-week Christmas sailing to the Canaries before setting sail on an ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ journey in February (the first time Fred. Olsen has offered a World Cruise from Liverpool).
