Viking has opened reservations for its 2028–2029 expedition voyages, releasing a new series of departures across the Arctic, Antarctica and the Great Lakes while further expanding its Longitudinal World Cruise programme linking North America with the polar south. The voyages will be operated by the expedition vessels Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris, both designed for operations in remote regions and polar waters.
The company stated that the new deployment reflects continued demand for longer and more immersive expedition itineraries focused on scientific exploration and destination-based experiences. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Torstein Hagen indicated that the voyages had been developed for travellers seeking closer engagement with remote environments, with programmes built around exploration alongside scientists and regional specialists.
Among the principal itineraries is the 15-day Into the Antarctic Circle voyage between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia, which includes crossings south of the Antarctic Circle. The 81-day Arctic to Antarctic Explorer will sail from Nuuk to Ushuaia, tracing coastlines from Greenland through the Americas to Antarctica. Additional departures include the 10-day Great Lakes Treasures round voyage from Milwaukee, the 13-day Into the Northwest Passage itinerary from Nuuk, and the 13-day Antarctic Explorer sailing between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia.
The programme also includes the Great Lakes Collection voyage between Toronto and Duluth, as well as the Longitudinal World Cruise IV, a 62-day expedition from Milwaukee to Ushuaia combining the Great Lakes, the Atlantic seaboard, South America and Antarctica within a single itinerary.
Viking’s expedition ships each accommodate 378 guests and are built to Polar Class standards. The vessels are equipped with laboratories, observation spaces, Zodiac craft, kayaks and scientific partnerships intended to support research activity and educational programming during voyages in remote regions.
The opening of the 2028–2029 programme coincides with the company’s current spring promotion for North American travellers, which runs through May 31st, 2026 and includes fare reductions and complimentary international airfare on selected river, ocean and expedition departures scheduled between 2026 and 2029.
