Independent sightseeing: Easy. Antibes is a compact and largely pedestrianized port town, with the Old Town, ramparts, Provençal Market and Picasso Museum close to Port Vauban.

Most cruise ships anchor offshore and tender passengers into Port Vauban, although some smaller vessels may berth. Confirm the landing point and final tender time onboard.

Getting from the Cruise Port

From the tender landing or berth in Port Vauban, the entrance to Old Antibes is generally about a 10-minute walk. Passengers can normally explore the principal sights without a shuttle, taxi or organized excursion.

Antibes railway station is beside the northern side of the port and provides regional trains toward Cannes and Nice. Local Envibus services connect the center with Juan-les-Pins and Cap d'Antibes, but schedules should be checked before relying on a bus for the return journey.

Best Ways to Spend Your Time

Old Antibes, Market and Picasso Museum

Allow 2–4 hours for the historic center. Enter through Porte Marine and explore the narrow pedestrian streets, Cours Masséna and the covered Provençal Market. The food market operates in the morning, with seasonal variations and some off-season Monday closures.

The Picasso Museum occupies Château Grimaldi above the sea. It is a worthwhile addition when open, but passengers should verify the day's schedule before visiting. The surrounding terrace, cathedral and ramparts remain rewarding even without entering the museum.

Port Vauban, Ramparts and the Nomade Sculpture

Allow 1–2 hours for an easy waterfront circuit. Walk through the marina, continue to Bastion Saint-Jaume and see Jaume Plensa's large letter-shaped Nomade sculpture. Return beside the old ramparts for views across the sea and toward Fort Carré.

Beach Time at Ponteil or Salis

Ponteil and Salis are sandy, relatively shallow beaches south of the Old Town. They are practical on foot for passengers who have several hours ashore; allow approximately 25–40 minutes each way depending on the beach and starting point. Combine a swim with the ramparts rather than planning a separate long excursion.

Cap d'Antibes Coastal Walk

The Tirepoil coastal path is a better choice for active visitors with a long port call. The official circuit begins near Garoupe Beach and covers approximately 5 km (3.1 mi), taking about two hours without a lengthy stop.

Use a taxi or a suitably timed local bus to reach the trailhead. The path includes steps and uneven rocky sections, is unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, and may close during strong wind or poor weather. Allow additional time for transport in both directions.

Easy Old Town and Ramparts Circuit

Pure walking time: about 40 minutes
Recommended total time: 2–3 hours
Difficulty: Easy to moderate, with cobbled lanes, short slopes and some steps.

1. Port Vauban: Start at the tender landing or passenger exit and follow the marina toward the old ramparts.
2. Porte Marine: Enter Old Antibes through the historic waterfront gateway.
3. Provençal Market: Visit the covered market on Cours Masséna if it is operating.
4. Antibes Cathedral: Continue through the lanes to the cathedral beside Château Grimaldi.
5. Picasso Museum: Visit the collection if time and opening arrangements permit, or pause for the sea views outside.
6. Safranier district: Walk through this small neighborhood of quiet lanes and flower-decorated houses.
7. Seafront ramparts: Follow the elevated waterfront route toward Bastion Saint-Jaume.
8. Nomade sculpture: Finish at the marina viewpoint, then return directly through Port Vauban.

The route ends close to the landing area, making it easy to shorten if tender queues begin forming.

Longer Excursions

Cannes and Nice are accessible by regional train, while villages such as Saint-Paul-de-Vence usually require a taxi, private driver or organized tour. These trips are possible during a long call but offer less flexibility than remaining in Antibes.

An organized excursion is preferable for itineraries combining several Riviera destinations or using winding inland roads. Independent rail travel is more suitable for passengers comfortable monitoring live schedules and leaving a generous margin for the return.

Practical Tips

• Wear shoes suitable for cobbles, steps and polished stone in the Old Town.
• Check museum, fort and market schedules for the specific day of the call; seasonal and weekly closures occur.
• Carry sun protection and water, particularly for the exposed ramparts and Cap d'Antibes paths.
• Fort Carré can be seen across Port Vauban, but an interior visit may require advance planning and can be affected by weather or security closures.
• For a tender call, aim to be back near the landing point at least 45–60 minutes before the final tender, or earlier if required by the cruise line.
