Small Columbia River cruise ships dock at Parker’s Landing Marina in Washougal, beside Marina Park and Parker’s Landing Historical Park. The immediate waterfront is easy to explore on foot, but downtown Camas, wildlife areas and Columbia River Gorge viewpoints require transport.

Independent with some planning or transport: a waterfront walk is straightforward directly from the ship. For downtown Camas or natural attractions farther east, arrange a taxi, rideshare or cruise excursion and confirm the return journey in advance.

Getting from the Cruise Dock

• Parker’s Landing: passengers normally step ashore beside the marina rather than at a large cruise terminal.
• Immediate surroundings: Marina Park, Parker’s Landing Historical Park and the riverfront paths are within a few minutes’ walk.
• Washougal and Camas: the commercial districts are beyond the most convenient walking range for a short call. A taxi, rideshare or arranged transfer is more practical.
• Public transport: local service is designed primarily for residents and may involve limited frequencies or connections. It is not the best choice when the ship’s departure time is fixed.

Best Ways to Spend the Call

Parker’s Landing and Washougal Waterfront

This is the easiest independent option. Walk through Marina Park for views across the Columbia River, then visit the interpretive features in Parker’s Landing Historical Park. Continue east to Washougal Waterfront Park, where a broad paved trail loops around the riverfront.

Allow 1.5–2.5 hours for an unhurried walk with viewpoints and historical displays. The route is mostly flat and suitable for passengers who prefer to remain close to the ship.

Historic Downtown Camas

Downtown Camas offers a compact collection of independent shops, cafes, galleries and early 20th-century commercial buildings centered around NE Fourth Avenue. It works well for passengers wanting a relaxed town visit rather than a nature excursion.

Allow about 2–3 hours, including transport. Use a taxi, rideshare or ship-arranged transfer in both directions; walking from the marina would consume too much of a short visit and includes less attractive roadside sections.

Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge

This Columbia River floodplain refuge east of Washougal is a good choice for birdwatching and an easy nature walk. The Gibbons Creek Wildlife Art Trail is approximately 4.5 km (2.8 mi), with wetlands, open landscapes and wildlife-viewing opportunities.

Allow about 2–3 hours plus transport. The refuge is not practical to reach on foot from the cruise dock. Arrange a round-trip vehicle, check current trail access before leaving and note that dogs and bicycles are not permitted on the refuge trail.

Columbia River Gorge Scenic Excursion

A guided drive can combine river viewpoints, waterfalls or historic sites along the Columbia River Gorge. Because attractions are spread across both sides of the river and road conditions can affect travel times, this is better suited to an organized excursion or a prearranged private tour.

Do not attempt to combine several distant Gorge attractions independently during a short call. Multnomah Falls and locations on the Oregon side require bridge crossings and a substantial return-time allowance.

Self-Guided Waterfront Walk

Parker’s Landing to Washougal Waterfront Park

1. Begin at the cruise dock in Parker’s Landing Marina.
2. Walk through Marina Park and pause at the river overlook.
3. Continue into Parker’s Landing Historical Park for its plazas, commemorative features and interpretive displays.
4. Follow the waterfront connection east toward Washougal Waterfront Park.
5. Complete the paved park loop, using the viewpoints and interpretive signs along the Columbia River.
6. Return by the same waterfront route to the marina and ship.

Distance: approximately 3–4 km (1.9–2.5 mi), depending on how much of each park is explored.

Pure walking time: about 45–60 minutes. Recommended total time: 1.5–2 hours.

Difficulty: easy. The route is mostly flat and paved, although short connecting sections may be less even. Riverfront paths can be exposed to wind, rain and summer sun.

Longer Outdoor Options

Captain William Clark Park and Cottonwood Beach

This 85-acre riverside park has walking paths, interpretive features, picnic areas and a broad natural beach. A levee trail extends for approximately 3.2 km (2 mi), but the park is too far east for a comfortable walk from the ship. Arrange transport and treat the beach primarily as a scenic stop rather than relying on it for swimming.

Lacamas Lake Heritage Trail

The lakeside shared-use trail extends approximately 5.6 km (3.5 mi) one way over generally easy gravel terrain. Cruise passengers should walk only a selected section unless they have a long call and prearranged transport. Allow at least 2.5–3.5 hours for a useful visit including transfers.

Practical Tips

• Confirm the ship’s exact all-aboard time before beginning any excursion away from Parker’s Landing.
• Prearrange the return ride when visiting Camas, Lacamas Lake, Steigerwald or the wider Columbia River Gorge; on-demand vehicles may not always be immediately available.
• Allow additional time for traffic on State Route 14 and for bridge crossings if an excursion enters Oregon.
• Wear layers and carry rain protection. Conditions beside the Columbia River can change quickly.
• For independent sightseeing, plan to be back near the marina at least 45–60 minutes before the required boarding time. Allow a larger margin after a distant Gorge excursion.
