Dart Harbour (port locode GBDTM) serves Dartmouth, a civil parish and town in Devon County, England UK, with population around 6,000. It is a popular tourist destination situated on the western bank of the River Dart's estuary. The river is a long, narrow tidal ria (coastal inlet) running inland as far as Totnes. Dartmouth is within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the South Hams District.
The Royal Regatta in Port of Dartmouth takes place annually over 3 days at the end of August. This spectacular event sees traditional regatta boat races together with fun fairs, community games, markets, air displays including fireworks and the Red Arrows. Royal Navy guard ship is always present at the regatta.
Bayard's Cove was used in several TV productions, such as The Onedin Line, a BBC TV drama series which ran from 1971 until 1980. Many of the scenes from the BBC series "Down to Earth" with Ricky Tomlinson were filmed at different locations around the town.
Major tourist attractions in Dartmouth include Dartmouth Castle, Dartmouth Royal Naval College and Dartmouth Steam Railway terminating at Kingswear on the opposite riverbank.
Boat sailings to nearby coastal sites (including Salcombe and Torbay) and up the river (to Dittisham, Totnes and Greenway Estate) are offered by several companies.
PS Kingswear Castle is a paddlesteamer that returned to Dartmouth in 2013.
The town is linked to Kingswear by three ferries. The Lower Ferry and Higher Ferry are both vehicular ferries. Passenger Ferry, as the name suggests, transports only passengers, principally to link at Kingswear station with Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway. The nearest bridge across Dart River is in Totnes, some 18 km (11 ml) away by road.
Dartmouth cruise terminal
In December 2025, the Dart Harbour Port Authority completed upgrades regarding cruise vessels' tendering operations.
The improvements include ISPS-certified landing/berthing facilities not only at the central Town Jetty (where tenderboats for most visiting ships dock) but also at two major shore excursion spots: Greenway House (aka “Queen of Crime”) and Kingswear Steam Railway (at Kingswear). Both new landings enable direct tenderboat access from the ship to the destination.
For vessels deploying Zodiac-type watercraft (large-capacity RIB boats), a dedicated low-freeboard berth was established in downtown to facilitate easier disembarkation.
