Eureka is a port city located in California, USA, the Redwood Empire region. The city is approx 430 km (270 ml) north of San Francisco and 160 km (100 ml) south of Oregon state's border. The urban area covers a total area of 18,5 ml2 (48 km2), with population around 45,000.
Eureka is the biggest coastal city between Portland Oregon and San Francisco CA. It is the regional center for trade, government, health care and the arts on North Coast north of San Francisco Bay Area. Greater Eureka is one of the major commercial fishing ports in California. It is the biggest deep-water port between Coos Bay and San Francisco - a stretch of around 800 km (500 ml).
The town played a major role in the West Coast lumber trade. Eureka is a state historic landmark with hundreds of Victorian houses, including nationally-recognized Carson Mansion. Here is also the Sequoia Park Zoo - California's oldest zoo.
