Frederikshavn is a port town in Denmark's Nordjylland region (on the Jutland peninsula's northeastern coast, northern Denmark. The town has a population of around 25,000. As a Baltic Sea port, Frederikshavn is an important ferry port serving the routes between Denmark and Sweden (Goteborg) and Norway (Oslo).

Among the largest Ro-Ro Pax ships (car and passenger ferries) homeported in Frederikshavn are STENA LINE's vessels Stena Jutlandica, Stena Saga, Stena Danica, Stena Gothica.

The town's current economy is based mainly on heavy machinery manufacturing. The region's largest employer is MAN Energy Solutions SE (2010-founded, Augsburg-based manufacturer of marine diesel engines and propulsion systems).

Here is also the Royal Dutch Navy Base Frederikshavn - the homeport of Denmark's icebreakers (currently none), the 1932-launched HDMY Dannebrog (royal yacht, official and private residence for the Queen of Denmark) and the 1933-built sailing ship Danmark (full-rigged training ship owned by the government agency Danish Maritime Authority).

In Frederikshavn harbor is Orskov Yard AS (1958-founded as Orskov Christensen's Steel Shipyard) which is owned by the private/family company Orskov Group Ltd. The facility has a floating dock and a drydock and specializes in ship repairs, general maintenance works, as well as ship conversions and refits/upgrade projects. Orskov Yard employs between 200-500 workers.

The list of popular tourist attractions includes Bangsbo (Fort, Museum, Botanical Garden), Art Museum, Frederikshavn Shipyard Historical Society, as well as the annual Tordenskiold and Bangsbo Flower festivals.

 

In May 2019, Port Frederikshavn (locode DKFDH) contracted Bladt Industries AS (1965-founded, Aalborg-headquartered international steel company) for building the port's new oil terminal. Construction works included dewatering, concrete, installations, 11 storage tanks for wastewater and marine fuels (total capacity 74,400 m3), loading facilities, a pumping station, pipes, electricity, central heating, staff facilities, and controls/automation.

The new terminal was scheduled for completion in 2020-Q4 and to be rented by Stena Oil AB.

The port's main parking area is located on your left when entering the port. There is a passenger pick up / drop off are (with limited parking spaces) in front of the ferry terminal building.

The nearest to the port train station (Frederikshavn Station) is at approx 20 min walking distance from the ferry terminal "Stena Line Terminal". The railway station connects Frederikshavn with the Danish cities Hjorring, Aalborg, Arhus, Odense, Copenhagen, and Skagen. The nearest to the port bus station is at approx 20 min walking distance from the ferry terminal.
