Laerdal is a tendering cruise port, meaning that vessels anchor off the coast and their passengers are transported ashore via the ship's tender boats or Zodiacs.
Laerdalsoyri is a unique travel destination for tourists interested in authentic Norwegian wooden architecture (from the 18th-century) represented by 161 buildings in the Old Town. Laerdalsoyri developed as a trading port, with a convenient location near Sognefjorden's head. Sognefjord/Sogn Fjord is one of Norway's longest fjord systems (length 205 km / 127 mi) with max width 4,5 km (2,8 mi) and max depth 1308 m (4291 ft) which allows large ships (cruise and cargo) to safely navigate in the area.
