Madison IN is an Ohio River cruise port and city in Jefferson County (Indiana USA) with population around 12,000. Madison is the southern terminus of Indiana State Road 7 (highway linking to Vernon IN, 23 mi / 37 km northwest). Ohio River Scenic Byway links to Vevay (20 mi / 32 km east) and to Louisville KY (23 mi / 37 km west). The road distance from Madison to Scottsburg. is 48 mi (77 km, southwest) and to Cincinnati is 68 mi (109 km, northeast).
Town's construction started in 1810 and it soon started to rapidly develop due to river shipping trade. Indiana State's first railroad was opened in 1847 and in 1921 became part of the Pennsy (Pennsylvania Railroad Company, in 1882 tanked as the world's largest corporation by annual traffic and revenue).
