Medemblik is an IJsselmeer (IJssel River / Rhine River) cruise port and town in North Holland (West-Frisia, Netherlands) with a population of around 45,000. Often attacked by pirates, the trading town received city rights in 1289. City walls were erected in 1572. In 2007, Medemblik (municipality) merged with Noorder-Koggenland and Wognum. In 2011 were merged Andijk and Wervershoof.
Medemblik's current economy is based on tourism. The town is best known for its two large boat marinas also serving major European sailing events. Tourist attractions include Kasteel Radboud (13th-century harbor castle), 17th-18th-century houses, two churches, orphanage, town hall.
