Port Genoa is the cruise port to Milano - the capital of Lombardy region, Italy's most populous metro area and Italy's second-largest city (after Rome). The city has population around 1,4 million (metro over 3,2 million, up to 5,3 million with commuters), ranking it Europe's 19th-largest. The distance between Genoa and Milan is 145 km (90 mi).

The Milano metropolis includes almost all provinces of Piedmont and Lombardy. Milan is Italy's main financial and industrial center. It has EU's 2nd-largest city economy (after Paris France) in terms of GDP and is ranked the largest among all non-capital European cities.

 

Milano is popular for its well-developed industries of commerce, finance, education (academies, universities, cultural institutions), research, media, arts, fashion, design, healthcare, entertainment, services, tourism. In the business district is Italy's Stock Exchange (Borsa Italiana) as well as the headquarters of the world's largest banks and companies. The city is an important world fashion and design capital, famous for international fairs and events, including Furniture Fair and Fashion Week.

The city's landmarks, museums and theatres (including Sforza Castle, Milan Cathedral, Leonardo da Vinci paintings) attract over 9 million visitors annually. Milano is the 2nd Italian city after Naples with the highest number of accredited Michelin-star chefs.
