Porto Santo Stefano is a port town located on Monte Argentario peninsula (southern Tuscany, Italy). It is region's biggest town, served by ferries to Tuscan islands. This resort town is located approx 40 km (25 ml) southeast of Grosseto, 10 km (6 ml) southwest of Orbetello and 12 km (8 ml) from Porto Ercole.
The region is popular for its unspoilt beaches and nature reserve. In ancient times, the area was an island that later became joined to mainland Italy by 3 sand bars (today separated by lagoons and covered in woodland). On peninsula's northern coast is Porto Ercole, while Orbetello is on the central isthmus, between two lagoons. The southern connecting isthmus is the Tombolo nature reserve featuring a bike path. From here tourists can access one of the quietest beaches along the Italian coast. Among the popular tourist attarctions is also the annually held Palio Marinaro (4-km rowing regatta) in August.
