Portsmouth NH (port locode USPSM) is a port city in New Hampshire USA (Rockingham County), with population around 22,000. This is an old seaport and a popular destination for domestic tourists during summer. The harbor is on the Piscataqua River's estuary and borders Maine.
As a cruise port, Portsmouth NH is included in the New England itineraries of the USA's largest cruise company and travel brand ACL/American Cruise Lines.

The settlement (as Strawbery Banke) was established in the first half of the 17th century (1630) as a trading post in the English colony of New Hampshire. The village was incorporated as a town (Portsmouth) in 1653. It was protected by the fortress Fort William and Mary on the New Castle Island, built at the mouth of the Piscataqua.
Besides trade, local industries included fishing, shipbuilding and wood (timber and lumber).
Portsmouth NH's most popular tourist attractions include USS Albacore Museum & Park (houses a 1972-decommissioned Navy submarine used for testing), Buckminster House (1725-built, a former funeral salon), Gilley's Diner (1912-established as a horse-drawn lunch wagon), the African Burying Ground (18th century memorial park), the Harbor Lighthouse (1878-built), the Historical Society (1917-founded museum galleries), Rockingham Hotel & Library Restaurant (1885-built), Strawbery Banke Museum (a neighborhood with 37 restored buildings built in the 17th-18th-19th centuries).
