Review of ms Oosterdam deck 11 (Observation-The Retreat-Sports)

Observation Deck houses the aft-positioned sports complex with a separate Volleyball Court/Pickleball Court and Basketball Court. Since 2023, all HAL ships have pickleball courts (installed on the top deck) operated via an exclusive partnership with PPA-Professional Pickleball Association. HAL also offers complimentary beginner lessons (led by onboard instructors), sells branded pickleball starter kits (at the ship's retail shops) and Play Pickleball tutorial videos are included in the cabin TV programming.

During the ship's drydock 2016 refurbishment, here both Canvas Cover areas were redesigned to become “The Retreat”. The Retreat is an adults-only relaxation complex with sunbathing area (padded luxury loungers) and all 14 private cabanas available for hire. Cabana rental rates are per day. Daily pass prices differ depending on the ship’s location/itinerary (portday or seaday) and are inclusive of 1 massage tent, lunch and concierge service.

Being the ship’s top deck, Observation Deck provides some of the best vantage points to make photos and enjoy the port- and sea views along the cruise route.
