Aasiaat is located in western Greenland in the Aasiaat Archipelago at Disko Bay's southern end. With a population of 3,100 as of 2014, it's Greenland's 5th-largest town.
Aasiaat name means "Spiders" n Greenlandic. The exact explanation is yet to be determined due to the lack of historical facts of the name's origin. The most common assumption is that when the village was founded, it was abundant with spiders. However, today like in the rest of Greenland, such creatures are rarely seen in the town.
Sometimes, Aasiaat is referred to as "the Town of the Whales", because marine mammals such as seals and whales are a common sight.
The Aasiaat cruise port map is interactive. It shows the port's exact location, along with the real-time cruise ship traffic (if any) in its vicinity - today, and right now. By zooming-out you can see other cruise ship ports located near Aasiaat, Greenland.
If you lose the Aasiaat location on the map, simply reload the page (also with F5 button). This feature is integrated with the CruiseMapper's cruise ship tracker tracking the vessels' current positions at sea and in ports.
