Almeirim is located approx 483 km (300 ml) up the Amazon River from the Atlantic ocean, and halfway between Santarem and Belem.
The municipality encompasses a large part (95%) of the Maicuru Biological Reserve, covering a total area of approx 11518 km2 (4447 ml2). Serra do Areao Airport is in Monte Dourado district - approx 73 km (45 ml) away from the city.
Among the largest ever cruise ships that have stopped in Almeirim Brazil is the Phoenix Reisen ship Albatros (on January 16, 2018) as part of an Around The World Cruise itinerary roundtrip from Hamburg Germany. The smaller itinerary segment (Jan 13-31, 20-days long) that included Almeirim started in Manaus and ended in Buenos Aires (Argentina).
