Bodrum is situated in the southwestern corner of Anatolia. It is a seacoast town with sleek yachts anchored in twin bays under the walls of the medieval castle of Saint Peter, built by the crusading Knights of Saint John during the 15th century. With a population of 50,000 Bodrum is one of Aegean's prettiest tiny resort towns but has also become more popular. Ships arrive at the ferry pier close to the Castle of Saint Peter, set on a point splitting the inner and outer harbours. The castle was created by the Knights of Saint John during the 15th century and boasts various dungeons, towers, courtyards, and interesting museums.
Bodrum owes its fame to Mausolus, a man long dead, and his renowned "Mausoleum", one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World. The mausoleum's remains are disappointing though imaginatively restored, as most of the intriguing statues and friezes are in the London Museum. The amphitheatre has been restored and is currently used for festivals. The other claim to fame of Bodrum comes from Herodotus, the "Father of History", who was born here.
Bodrum cruise terminal
Bodrum's new cruise terminal is located at approx 20-min walking distance (along the waterfront) from the city centre or about 1,5 km / 4900 ft. Terminal's building houses the port's customs, a duty-free shopping area, also a cafeteria and restaurant. The terminal also has a helipad used in cases of emergencies. At the cruise ship pier also dock fast ferries serving the route between Bodrum and Kos Island (Greece).
When there is a docked cruise ship, the port authority provides shuttle boats for the passengers (at additional charge). The service is between the pier and St Peter castle.
