Losinj Island is located in Kvarner Bay (northern Adriatic Sea), south of Rijeka and is part of Croatia's Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (zupanija). The island's largest settlements are Artatore, Cunski, Mali Losinj, Veli Losinj, Nerezine, Sveti Jakov - all linked by a road running island's entire length.
Regularly scheduled ferries (via Cres Island) serve the daily connections Mali Losinj-Pula, Mali Losinj-Zadar. Cres and Losinj are connected via a small bridge (at Osor, on Cres Island. Losinj Airport is approx 6 km (4 mi) and serves domestic and (seasonal) international flights (by Silver Air) linking to Lugano (Switzerland), Venice (Italy) and Zagreb (Croatia).
Losinj Island has total area approx 74 km2 (29 mi2), population around 10,00, highest elevation point Televrin/Osorscica 588 m (1929 ft). The island is a very popular short-break vacation destination for foreign tourists, mainly Germans, Italians and Slovenian.
The climate is mild and most vegetation is evergreen (myrtle, laurel, holm oak).
Italian is the island's second most popular language.
