Mormugao (Goa, India)
Cruise Port schedule, live map, terminals, news
Mormugao (aka Marmagoa) is a port city, sub-district and municipality in South Goa district, which (together with Konkan) comprises India's Goa state. Port Mormugao is the principal cargo port (and cruise port) of Goa City. Goa’s Port Vasco da Gama (Vasco City) was founded in 1543 and currently has population around 100,000.
Vasco Mormugao is a major trade port featuring a natural deep-water harbour. It was the terminus of a gauge railway linking the Portuguese colony Estado da India (1505-1961) to British Raj (1858-1947). As part of the project, a British company modernized the seaport and built the railway (officially opened in July 1886).
Marmagoa (and Goa City) are currently served only by Dabolim Airport in Dabolim, located approx 5 km from Vasco. The airport was opened in 1955 and its new (inaugurated in 2013) terminal has annual passenger capacity around 8 million.
In 1963, Port Mormugao was designated Major Port. It is currently ranked India's main iron ore export port, with annual throughput over 27 million tons.
