Shelburne is a port town located in Canda's Nova Scotia province, with population around 2,000. Historically, town's economy is based on commercial fishing, salmon farming, fish processing, shipbuilding (since late-18th-century), ship repairs, aquaculture, logging, manufacturing (wood barrels/casks, furniture, marine supplies).

The Shelburne Shipbuilding yard is owned and managed by Irving Shipbuilding Company, that also owns the shipyard in Halifax). In 2008, the company was awarded a CAD 549 million Government contract to modernize 7 military ships (Halifax-class frigates) at the Halifax Shipyard. In 2011, the company received Canada's ever-largest shipbuilding contract (CAD 35 billion). This contract was for building a new fleet (21 Royal Canadian Navy vessels) over a period of 30 years.
