MS Amera (1988-built, last refurbished between October and December 2023) was operated by HAL - Holland America Line under the name "MS Prinsendam" from 2002 to 2019. Prinsendam's last refurbishment by HAL took place in 2016, while her first drydock with Phoenix Reisen was in 2019. Originally built for Royal Viking Line (now defunct), the vessel was purchased by Carnival Corporation in 1988. She was operated by Cunard Line between 1994 and 1998 (as Royal Viking Sun), and by Seabourn from 1999 to 2002 (as Seabourn Sun).
As a former Royal Viking Line cruise ship, Amera is related to her former fleetmates (now part of the Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines fleet): Royal Viking Star (Black Watch), Royal Viking Sky (Boudicca), and Royal Viking Sea (Albatros).
The Prinsendam/Amera cruise ship deck plan features a total of 419 staterooms accommodating 838 passengers (maximum capacity 1006), and is served by 470 crew members. The vessel has 13 decks (9 accessible to passengers, 8 with cabins), 4 restaurants, 4 lounges and bars, 2 swimming pools, 3 outdoor Jacuzzis, and 4 elevators.
