The current-day town's economy is based on major companies like Smurfit Kappa Group (Irish paper-packing company), Hermann Hartje KG (wholesaler and producer of bicycles, motorcycles, car accessories), Christian Luhmann GmbH (mineral oils and lubricants manufacturer), Sparkasse Nienburg (banking and real estates), Volksbank Aller-Weser eG (cooperative bank), Oelschlager Metalltechnik GmbH (office furniture), Sanum-Kehlbeck GmbH (pharmaceuticals).
