Nienburg-Weser (Germany Lower Saxony)

Nienburg-Weser (Nienburg an der Weser) is a Weser River cruise port and town in Germany's Lower Saxony state (Nienburg district) with population around 30,000. The town is located approx 55 km (34 mi) southeast of Bremen and approx 45 km (28 mi) northwest of Hannover (state's capital). The river travel distance between Nienburg and Stolzenau is 18 km (11 mi), the road distance is 22 km (14 mi).

The town was founded in the late-10th-century (as Negenborg / New Castle) and received city rights in the early-13th-century following the establishment of Grafschaft Hoya (County of Hoya / 1202-1582) - a state of the Holy Roman Empire (962-1806). In the period 1582-1866 the city was ruled by Herzogtum Braunschweig-Luneburg (Duchy/1235-1806).
