Finnsnes is a port town located in Norway's Troms county (Lenvik municipality). The port is on Norway's mainland, and across Gisundet strait from Senja Island.
Gisund Bridge connects the town to its suburban villages (Laukhella and Silsand) on Senja Island. The municipality is provided with kindergartens, decentralized school system (primary and secondary levels) and a centre for decentralized studies (university level). The town's center is marked by the renowned Finnsnes Church.
The small town (population around 4000) has several surrounding boroughs, forming a larger urban area. These are Skogen, Finnfjordbotn, Nygard, Silsand, Trollvika. Over the last 100 years, Finnsnes has grown from a tiny farm community into a center for commerce in this Norwegian region. The town enjoys extensive commercial and industrial growth during the last few decades.

Finnsnes is one of the ferry ports along the "Express Route" - Norway's Government subsidized "Norwegian Coastal Express". This is a regularly scheduled passenger and cargo shipping service in Norway. The "ferry and cruise" itinerary is between two turnaround ports - Bergen (southmost) and Kirkenes (northmost). It connects a total of 34 ports, which are Norwegian communities without any road or air access.
Since January 2021, Norway's coastal ferry service is operated by two companies - Hurtigruten (7 ships) and Havila Shipping (4 ships)..Norwegian Government's annual subsidy for the ferry service is around USD 100 million.
