Maceio (port locode BRMCZ) is a seaport, the largest city and the capital of Brazil's Alagoas state, with population around 1 million. This part of Brazil features numerous lakes and maceios (sea flows).

Port Jaragua is the cargo and cruise port of Maceio City. It is located in a natural deepwater harbor and has modern docking terminals serving various types of vessels. During Brazil's colonial times, major exports from here included coconut, spices, sugar, and tobacco.

Maceio City is served by Zumbi dos Palmares Airport, which is approx 25 km (16 mi) from downtown. The airport serves the carriers Andes Líneas Arreas, Avianca Brazil, Azul Brazilian Airlines, Gol Airlines, LATAM Argentina, and LATAM Brasil. Regularly scheduled flights connect to domestic destinations (Brasília, Salvador, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Natal, Campinas, Belo Horizonte) and seasonally to Spain (Cordoba-Andalusia).

Maceio is famous for its Federal University of Alagoas and numerous beautiful beaches. Sea water's color here varies from emerald-green to blue, the sand is white, and the water is crystal-clear. There are also many coconut plantations. Maceio Sea features natural pools and reefs located just a few meters off the coast and accessible only by tour boat or sailing rafts. Mundau Lake is another popular destination for bathing and sailing.

The city's historical buildings include the Historical Institute Museum, Cathedral of Our Lady of Pleasures, Deodoro Theatre, Municipal Market, and Floriano Peixoto Palace (seat of the state's government).

Maceio cruise terminal

On October 22, 2025, in Sao Paulo, the Brazilian government opened a bidding process for the Maceio Cruise Terminal for a 25-year concession. The winning bidder is to be announced soon.

The concessionaire company will be required to invest ~USD 4 million in facility upgrades and improvements, including the construction of a new parking lot (capacity 112 cars).
