MS Karnika (ex-Pacific Jewel, built in 1990 as “Crown Princess”, last refurbished in March 2018, scrapped in 2021) was part of P&O Australia's fleet between 2009 and 2019, together with fleetmates Pacific Explorer (2017), Pacific Aria (2015), Pacific Dawn, Pacific Eden (2015) and Pacific Pearl. The Pacific Jewel ship was previously operated as Crown Princess (1990-2002, link refers to the 2006-launched vessel) as part of the Princess Cruises fleet. The vessel’s service history also includes operations between 2002 and 2009 for A-Rosa, AIDA and Ocean Village (now defunct).
Pacific Jewel cruise ship deck plan featured a total of 837 staterooms for 1674 passengers (maximum capacity 2009 guests), served by 620 crew/staff. She had 11 passenger decks (out of 13), with 3 restaurants, 8 bars, 2 swimming pools, 2 Jacuzzis and 9 elevators. P&O Australia “mini cruises to nowhere” in the Pacific Jewel itinerary program were typically themed sailings.
Themed cruises offered varied onboard programming and entertainment. Featured activities included themed classes (dancing, boot camp, arts and crafts, cooking, spa and fitness, comedy), with workshops, demonstrations, guest speakers and presentations held on board and included in P&O Australia fares. The list of themes included food and wine, comedy, music and well-being.
On board, self-service launderettes (passenger-use laundry and ironing facilities) were located on Baja Deck 10. Laundry services were available for an extra charge (not included in the fares). Smoking on the Pacific Jewel ship was permitted only in designated outdoor public areas.
