Hvar island (Croatia) is located in Adriatic Sea (off Dalmatian coast) and between the Croatian islands Brac, Korcula and Vis. Port Hvar (locode HRHVA) serves farries and larger cruise vessels with a wharf/dock dedicated to passenger ships. Smaller-sized expedition ships and superyachts may alternatively visit the nearby Stari Grad.

The island has length of approx 68 km (42 mi), features a limestone ridge (east-west direction) and has highest elevation point (Sveti Nikola) 628 m (2060 ft). Unusual for the region, the island has freshwater springs and a vast fertile coastland. Hillsides are covered with pine forests, while the agricultural areas have vineyards, fruit orchards, lavender fields, olive groves.

With total population around 11,000, Hvar is ranked Croatia's 4th most populated island. It has been inhabited since pre-historic times - first by Neolithic people and later by the Illyrians. In 384 BC, Ancient Greeks founded here their Pharos colony (current Stari Grad / Old Town - a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

During medieval times (Venetian Republic, 8th-18th century), Hvar City became an important naval base. The port's prosperity brought culture and arts. Then was built one of Europe's first public theatres.

Larger cruise ships and ferries to Hvar Island dock at Hvar Town on the south-western coast (the above photo).

Smaller vessels and superyachts may alternatively visit the nearby Stari Grad (on the above photo).
