The settlement was founded in the late-7th-century and in early-8th-century was given to Fontenelle Abbey. Town's current economy is based on Lyonnaise des Eaux - a drinking water production company serving over 0,5 million consumers (annual capacity of over 90 million m3). Best-known tourist attractions include two churches (St Wandrille, St Thibault), the railway viaduct (late-19th-century, with stone arches and connected to two tunnels) and Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

As cruise tour port, Le Pecq is included in the Viking River Cruises itinerary program of the longships Rinda (built 2013) and Kadlin (built 2016). The next table shows the 7-day itinerary (themed as "Paris and the Heart of Normandy") as ports of call sequence.
