Tracy Arm Fjord (Alaska)
Cruise Port schedule, live map, terminals, news
Tracy Arm Fjord is part of Alaska's Fords Terror Wilderness park covering a total area of approx 2643 km2 (1020 ml2). The park consists of two deep-water narrow fjords - Tracy Arm (north) and Endicott Arm (south). Endicott Arm has length of 48 km (30 ml) and around 20% of the waterway is ice covered. During the summer, the fjord has considerable floating ice.
Tracy Arm Fjord is approx 72 km (45 ml) south of Juneau and approx 110 km (70 ml) north of Petersburg (Mitkof Island). The fjord is named after Benjamin Franklin Tracy (1830-1915, US Secretary of the Navy during President Benjamin Harrison).
The most common tour boat and cruise ship access to the fjord system is via Stephens Passage and Holkham Bay. The other way to enjoy the mesmerizing fjord scenery (rugged mountains, deep valleys, mighty waterfalls) and wildlife (bears, deer, eagles, harbor seals) are float plane tours with departures from Juneau and Petersburg. While Tracy Arm is often included as tour destination in larger cruise liners' Alaskan itineraries, Endicott Arm is visited mainly by smaller ships. It could also be a substitute destination for Trcy Arm.
Sawyer Glaciers (North and South) are located at Tracy Arm's end. The wildlife here includes bears (black and brown), deer, mountain goats, wolves, whales, seals, sea lions, seabirds.
