The city is home to numerous cultural events. Signature landmarks and shore excursion destinations are Charles Bridge, Jewish Quarter, Prague Castle, Old Town Square, Petrín Hill, Vysehrad. Its extensive historic center was included in UNESCO's World Heritage Sites list since 1992. The city has 10 large museums, numerous galleries, theatres, historical exhibits, renowned schools (including Charles University).

Prague receives around 6,4 million international visitors annually, ranking it Europe's 5th most visited city - after London, Paris, Istanbul and Rome. Among the most popular tours offered from Prague is Pilsen. The distance is approx 95 km (60 mi) - bus travel time around 1 hour 20 min.

Pilsen

Pilsen (Plzeň) is a city located in Czech Republic's western Bohemia, with population around 170,000 (the country's 4th largest). The city is located approx 90 km (56 mi) west of the capital Prague. It is famous worldwide for the Pilsner beer - pale lager created in 1842 by the Bavarian brewer Josef Groll (1813-1887).

  • The most prominent city sights are the St Bartholomew's Cathedral (late 13th century, its tower is the country's highest - at 102 m / 335 ft), the Town Hall, the Moorish Revival Great Synagogue (Europea's 2nd largest - after Dohany Street Synagogue in Budapest).
  • Pilsen has a 20 km (12 mi) long historic underground tunnel. Part of this cellar network is open to the public for tours.
  • Pilsen is well known for its breweries Pilsner Urquell (1842) and Gambrinus (1869), which are currently owned by SAB (South African Breweries). The Plzeňský Prazdroj brewery tour is a popular tourist attraction.

In 2015 Pilsen was the European Capital Of Culture, along with Mons (Belgium).
