MSC Fantasia (2008-built, last refurbished in October 2023) is the first of the Fantasia-class MSC cruise ships, together with Divina, Preziosa, and Splendida.
The MSC Fantasia deck plan includes 1637 staterooms for 3274 passengers (maximum capacity 3929), served by 1370 crew. The vessel has 17 decks (14 accessible to passengers, 9 with cabins), 6 dining venues, 28 lounges and bars, 5 swimming pools (including the sliding-roof-covered “I Tropici” pool), 12 Jacuzzis (outdoor whirlpools), and 24 elevators.
MSC Fantasia’s decks are named after Italian adjectives and superlatives.
"MSC for Me" Digital Innovation Program 2017–2018
All MSC ships are being fitted with enhanced digital connectivity including thousands of communication points, interactive digital screens, and location-based technology such as Bluetooth iBeacons. RFID (radio-frequency identification) and NFC (near-field communication) access systems are implemented in all staterooms.
The program was first introduced on MSC Meraviglia. Launched in June 2017, the ship was equipped with 114 interactive screens, 244 information screens, 31 virtual screens, 81 video wall monitors, RFID/NFC cabin access for 2244 staterooms, 3050 iBeacons, 700 wireless access points (WAPs), and 1200 CCTV cameras.
Key features of MSC’s digitalization program include:
- Apps integrating facial recognition and interactive smart bracelets developed by Samsung.
- Digital Concierge – enables real-time booking of onboard services, dining, and shore excursions, providing 24-hour access to MSC staff assistance.
- Capture – a virtual reality tool allowing passengers to preview itineraries, create personal photo galleries, and share content online.
- Organizer – a cruise planning tool for mobile devices offering detailed voyage information and the ability to pre-book tours, theater seats, dining, and more, both pre-cruise and onboard.
- Navigation – an interactive ship map with guidance on scheduled events, venue opening hours, and real-time child tracking via wearable bracelets.
- TailorMade – a digital advisor providing personalized recommendations based on passenger interests (gaming, culinary, entertainment, recreation, etc.).
Passengers may opt out of any “Internet of Things” (IoT) connected services at any time.
