Passengers arrive inside Fort Street Tourism Village, a secure waterfront complex with shops, restaurants, taxis and tour meeting points. The historic Swing Bridge is approximately 0.6 km (0.4 mi) from the village. Confirm the location and departure time of the final tender with the cruise line before leaving the terminal.

Licensed tour operators can be booked in or near the Tourism Village. For an independent excursion, confirm exactly where the operator will meet you and whether the stated return time is arrival at the tender pier or arrival beside the ship.

Best Ways to Spend Your Time

Altun Ha Maya Site

Altun Ha is one of the most manageable major Maya sites from Belize City. Allow approximately 4–5 hours for the road transfer, guided visit and return. The archaeological area has open plazas, uneven surfaces, steps and limited shade.

A guided excursion is preferable because the site is outside the city and interpretation adds considerably to the visit. A reputable independent tour can work during a sufficiently long call, but a ship-organized excursion provides more protection against road or tender delays.

Cave Tubing

Cave tubing generally requires 5–6 hours, including a road journey of roughly 45–60 minutes each way, equipment preparation, a jungle walk and the river experience. Expect uneven and potentially slippery ground, warm conditions and time in the water.

Use an organized excursion and check the operator's footwear, swimming and mobility requirements. Water levels and weather can affect operations. Combining cave tubing with Altun Ha usually creates a full-day program with little spare time.

Barrier Reef or Caye Excursion

Boat excursions may visit snorkeling areas, small cayes or both. These are practical only through an operator whose schedule is designed around cruise calls. Ask whether the trip leaves from the cruise landing or requires a separate transfer.

Conditions can be choppy, and repeated boarding may be difficult for passengers with limited mobility. Confirm whether snorkeling equipment, flotation devices, shade and supervision are provided.

Belize Zoo

The Belize Zoo houses native Belizean wildlife in naturalistic habitats. It is located at Mile 29 on the George Price Highway, about a 30-minute drive from Belize City under favorable conditions. Allow approximately 3.5–5 hours for transport and a useful visit.

A prearranged tour or taxi is more practical than relying on public buses during a cruise call. This is a good alternative for families and visitors interested in wildlife but not in water-based activities.

Caye Caulker Independently

Public water taxis connect the Belize Marine Terminal with Caye Caulker in approximately 45 minutes each way. The island is compact and easy to explore on foot, but the outing involves a public ferry in addition to the ship's tender.

Attempt this only on a long call with favorable ferry times. Check the current timetable before leaving, choose an early return sailing and allow a substantial margin for delays. A cruise-oriented boat excursion is safer when the available schedule is tight.

Self-Guided Historic Belize City Walk

Suitable for: Visitors comfortable exploring an active city in daylight. A guide or taxi-based city tour is preferable for anyone uncertain about the surroundings.

Route: Approximately 3 km (1.9 mi), with about 45 minutes of pure walking. Allow 2–3 hours with stops. The route is mostly flat, but pavements can be uneven and traffic requires attention.

1. Fort Street Tourism Village: Begin at the tender landing and confirm the final return time before exiting.
2. Baron Bliss Lighthouse: Follow the waterfront toward the lighthouse and nearby memorial area.
3. Museum of Belize: Continue to the former prison building. Check same-day opening before planning an interior visit.
4. Belize City Swing Bridge: Walk toward the Haulover Creek crossing and the commercial center around the bridge.
5. Battlefield Park: Continue through the central shopping area for a brief look at everyday city life.
6. St. John's Cathedral: Proceed south to the historic cathedral and nearby Government House grounds. Interior access may vary.

Rather than retracing the entire route on foot, consider taking an authorized taxi from the cathedral area back to Fort Street Tourism Village. Remain on the main daytime route, keep valuables unobtrusive and ask port staff or tourism personnel for current local guidance before setting out.
