Carnival Encounter deck plans

Carnival Encounter (originally built in 2002 as "Star Princess", last refurbished in April 2025, with prior drydocking by Princess in 2017 and refurbishment by P&O Australia in February 2023) is the third of nine GRAND-class Princess cruise ships. She is a sistership to the CCL fleetmate Golden Princess (now Carnival Adventure since 2025). Between 2021 and 2025, the vessel was part of the P&O Australia fleet, and in April 2025, she was transferred to CCL-Carnival Cruise Line.

The Carnival Encounter cruise ship deck plan shows a total of 1298 staterooms accommodating 2596 passengers (maximum capacity 3115), served by 1100 crew members. The vessel has 18 decks (13 accessible to passengers, 7 with cabins), 11 dining venues (restaurants and food bars), 6 lounges and bars, 4 swimming pools, 9 Jacuzzis (outdoor whirlpools), and 14 elevators.

Self-service launderettes (laundromats) for passenger use are located on decks 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. These facilities are equipped with ironing boards and provide detergent.

P&O Pacific Encounter Refurbishment 2021 Review

During a two-week drydock in March-April 2021 (at Damen Shipyards Singapore), the ship's hull and superstructure were repainted.

Three restaurants—Angelo’s, Dragon Lady, and The Waterfront—were updated with new carpeting and artwork. The Pantry (Lido Market) was enhanced with three Australian-themed fresh food outlets: Stix, Curry House, and Kettle & Bun.

The drydocking project involved over 250 contractors, more than 84,000 man-hours, the installation of approximately 14,000 m² (150,700 ft²) of new carpeting, and repainting of around 5,000 m² (53,800 ft²) of interior walls and ceilings.

All public spaces were thoroughly cleaned and renovated, along with general maintenance work throughout the ship.

Star Princess Deck Plan Changes – 2017 Refurbishment Review

During a 15-day drydock in December 2017 (Dec 3–15, in San Francisco, CA), the following upgrades were made:

• All passenger staterooms were upgraded with new bedding—each fitted with the Princess Luxury Bed. Many cabins were made interconnecting. Mini-Suite category MA was reclassified as M1.
• The kids’ and teens’ lounges (as part of "Camp Discovery") were renovated through a partnership with Discovery Channel, under Princess Cruises' complimentary youth program “Discovery at Sea.”
• New shops—“Fragrance & Cosmetic” and “Effy Fine Jewelry”—were added to the Boutiques (Shops of Princess).
• Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria was updated with a new menu and décor in collaboration with Chef Angelo Auriana.
• The Lotus Spa and Fitness Center received new gym equipment and a comprehensive upgrade.
• The Casino Lounge was redesigned and fitted with new carpeting.
• Additional renovations included new upholstery and carpeting throughout the vessel, along with general maintenance tasks.

This 2017 refurbishment was part of Princess Cruises' USD 450 million multi-year fleet upgrade initiative, “Come Back New Promise.”
