Mariner OTS deck plan changes – 2018 refurbishment review
The ship’s 2018 drydock (May 8–June 24, in Freeport, Bahamas) resulted in the following deck plan updates:
- On Sports Deck 13, Royal Caribbean added its signature high-speed water slides “Cyclone” and “Typhoon,” along with the FlowRider surfing simulator, Sky Pad (bungee trampoline with optional virtual reality), and a laser tag arena (“Battle for Planet Z,” a glow-in-the-dark game inside Studio B). The “Perfect Storm” slide duo and water park concept were first introduced on Liberty of the Seas and Harmony of the Seas (Oasis-class).
- On Spa Deck 12 (aft), the new “Slashaway Bay” kids’ aqua park was added — an interactive water play zone with cannons and geysers. It replaced the former Outdoor Youth Area (“back deck”).
- On Deck 15, the “Skylight Chapel” (wedding venue) was replaced by “The Observatorium” (Escape Room by Puzzle Break). This adventure game experience challenges small teams to solve themed puzzles within a set time limit.
- “The Golden Room” nightclub (Deck 3, lower level) was converted into new staterooms, while the upper level (Deck 4) was transformed into “Izumi,” a Japanese specialty restaurant with teppanyaki table-side grills.
- The Photo Gallery was relocated from Deck 4 to Deck 3. Its former space on Deck 4 was redesigned to include “Playmakers Sports Bar” and an Arcade Room.
- “Dragon’s Lair” nightclub (Deck 3, lower level) was also replaced with staterooms, and the upper level (Deck 4) converted to “Izumi.”
- Additional venues introduced on Deck 11 include Jamie’s Italian Restaurant (Mediterranean cuisine), The Bamboo Room (Polynesian-themed cocktail lounge), and Playmakers (sports bar and arcade).
New staterooms were also added, and all existing cabins were refurbished and upgraded. The 2018 Royal Amplified project cost approximately USD 100 million.

- On Deck 14, the “Diamond Club” lounge was introduced — an exclusive area for Crown & Anchor Society members.
- On Deck 4, “Giovanni’s Table” (Italian trattoria-style specialty restaurant) was added.
- On Spa Deck 12, Royal Caribbean’s signature Nursery was introduced.
