Saguenay (port locode CASAG) is a port city in Quebec Canada, located on the Saguenay River, approx 200 km (120 mi) north of Quebec City and approx 125 km (80 mi) northwest of Tadoussac. The city has population around 145,000 and was formed in 2002 by a merger with Chicoutimi. To access the port, cruise ships do scenic cruising in the Saguenay Fjord National Park (along the Saguenay River's eastern end).

Cruise ships actually dock at La Baie (Port Alfred) rather than in Saguenay's downtown. Port Alfred is one of the city's three boroughs, together with Chicoutimi and Jonquiere. Port Alfred provides (free of charge) passenger tendering operations via two tender boats with capacities of 125 and 175 passengers.

Saguenay is one of the 9 St Lawrence cruise ports of call - together with Quebec City, Trois-Rivieres, Montreal, Baie-ComeauSept-ÎlesGaspe, Havre-Saint-Pierre and Magdalen Islands.

The cruise port had its first ship in 2006.

  • In 2016, the Port had scheduled a total of 38 ship calls and celebrated its 10th anniversary.
  • In 2017, the Port handled a total of 55 cruise ship calls, which was a record season. During 2017's peak season (for "Fall Foliage" themed cruises), a total of 19 liners docked in a period of just 12 days (Sept 29 through Oct 12). Also in 2017, the port's average ship stay time increased from 8 hours (2016) up to nearly 15,5 hours.
  • For season 2018, the Port had scheduled a total of 60 calls, including Disney Cruise Line/DCL's maiden visit with Disney Magic (booked on Sept 24). Of all the 60 ship bookings, 19 were in the 12 days (Sept 29 - Oct 12), which is the port's peak "Fall Foliage" season.

On October 6, 2016, Cunard's Transatlantic liner RMS Queen Mary 2 made an inaugural visit to Saguenay on a 29-day roundtrip crossing from Southampton to Canada and New England (itinerary code M619C). The QM2 was also booked to visit Saguenay in 2017 and 2018.
