Independent with some planning or transport. Cabo San Lucas is a tender port, but the landing pier is conveniently located inside the marina beside downtown. The marina, central streets and several local sights are easy to explore independently. A boat is required for El Arco and Land’s End, while taxis or organized tours are preferable for attractions outside town.

Getting from the Cruise Port

Tenders normally land at the cruise pier on the southern side of Cabo San Lucas Marina. There is no conventional cruise terminal, but tour desks, shops, restaurants, taxis and boat operators are close to the landing point.

Downtown begins just beyond the marina and is reachable on foot. No shuttle is normally necessary for the marina or central Cabo. Taxis are readily available for beaches, resorts and trips farther along the Los Cabos corridor. Confirm the fare before entering, as taxis generally do not use meters.

Water taxis and small sightseeing boats depart from points around the marina. Compare the route, total duration, beach stops and return arrangements before agreeing to a trip.

Best Ways to Spend Your Time

Take a Boat to El Arco and Land’s End

This is the most distinctive short excursion from Cabo and fits easily into many port calls. Small boats typically pass Pelican Rock, the sea lion colony, Lover’s Beach and the rock formations surrounding El Arco. A basic sightseeing circuit usually takes about 45–60 minutes, though tours with swimming, snorkeling or beach time require longer.

Land’s End cannot be reached on foot. If arranging a beach drop-off, establish exactly when and where the boat will collect you. Landings may involve stepping into shallow water, and service depends on sea conditions. Divorce Beach on the Pacific side has dangerous surf and is not suitable for swimming.

Explore the Marina and Downtown

Allow about 2–3 hours for a relaxed independent circuit. Walk around the yacht marina, browse the central shopping streets, visit Plaza Amelia Wilkes and see the historic Iglesia de San Lucas. The area is compact, although heat and persistent sales approaches can make the walk feel longer.

This is the simplest option for passengers with limited time or those who prefer to remain close to the tender pier.

Relax at Médano Beach

Médano Beach is the main visitor beach in Cabo San Lucas and has restaurants, beach clubs and water activities. It is on the protected bay side and is generally more suitable for swimming than the exposed Pacific beaches, but swimmers should still observe local flags and conditions.

The closest part of the beach is roughly 2 km (1.2 mi) from the tender area, depending on the walking route. Allow about 25–35 minutes each way in the heat, or use a taxi or water taxi. Beach-club seating may require a minimum purchase; agree on any conditions before settling in.

Choose a Longer Marine or Adventure Excursion

Sailing, snorkeling, sport fishing and seasonal whale-watching trips are widely offered. Whale-watching is mainly a winter activity, and sightings are never guaranteed. Inland alternatives include desert drives, camel experiences and ATV tours, but these involve transfers and are better arranged as organized excursions with clearly stated return times.

Self-Guided Marina and Old Town Walk

Pure walking time: about 45–55 minutes
Recommended total time: 2–3 hours
Difficulty: Easy to moderate; mostly level around the marina, with heat, traffic and some uneven sidewalks downtown.

1. Tender pier: Leave the landing area and follow the pedestrian route beside the marina.
2. Marina promenade: Walk past yachts, fishing boats, shops and excursion desks while enjoying views across the harbor.
3. Puerto Paraíso area: Continue along the waterfront to the marina’s busier northern side.
4. Downtown streets: Turn inland toward the compact commercial center.
5. Plaza Amelia Wilkes: Pause in the traditional town square away from the busiest marina frontage.
6. Iglesia de San Lucas: See the small historic church near the plaza.
7. Return to the marina: Follow the most direct central streets back to the waterfront and continue to the tender pier.

The route can be shortened by remaining on the marina promenade. Carry water and use sun protection, as shade is inconsistent.

Trips Beyond Central Cabo

San José del Cabo

San José del Cabo offers a quieter historic center, mission church and gallery district, but it is a separate town. The drive commonly takes about 35–50 minutes each way and can take longer in traffic. A prearranged transfer or organized excursion is more practical than attempting the trip by local bus during a short call.

Todos Santos

Todos Santos is considerably farther away and normally requires about one hour or more of driving each way. It is realistic only during a long port call and is best visited on a structured excursion that accounts for traffic and tender deadlines.

Practical Tips

• Check the ship’s last-tender time rather than relying only on the scheduled departure time.
• Allow extra time for tender queues in both directions, especially when several ships are anchored.
• Agree on boat routes, duration, beach collection and the full price before departure.
• Use a generous return margin for excursions outside Cabo San Lucas because road traffic can be unpredictable.
• Expect strong sun and limited shade; carry water and wear suitable footwear.
• Use normal precautions with valuables and decline unwanted sales offers clearly but politely.
