Ludwigshafen is a Rhine River cruise port and city in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate state (Urban district) with population around 170,000. The city is on the Rhine and opposite Mannheim. Mannheim, Heidelberg, and Ludwigshafen form Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar (metro population around 2,4 million).

The city's largest industries are chemical (including BASF - the world's largest chemical company), shipping (a huge harbor port handling various cargoes, and raw materials for BASF), engineering (mechanical and electrical), IT, brewery (Mayerbruu Oggersheim). Ludwigshafen has no airport but has great connections to the airports of Speyer, Worms, Mannheim, and Frankfurt (~1-hour drive). The city is well-connected to Germany's Autobahn/highway system, including A-650 (west-east), A-61 (north-south), A-6, A-65, B-9.

The city is also known for its large-sized nature parks, including Ebertpark, Stadtpark, Riedsaumpark, Friesenpark, Pfingstweide, Mundenheim.
