Ludwigshafen is a Rhine River cruise port and city in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate state, with population around 170,000. The city is on Rhine and opposite Mannheim. Mannheim, Heidelberg and Ludwigshafen form Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar (metro population around 2,4 million).
City's largest industries are chemical (including BASF - world's largest chemical company), shipping (a huge harbor port handling various cargoes, and mainly raw materials for BASF), engineering (mechanical and electrical), IT, brewery (Mayerbruu Oggersheim). Ludwigshafen has no airport but has great connections to the airports of Speyer, Worms, Mannheim and Frankfurt (~1-hour drive). The city is well-connected to Germany's Autobahn/highway system, including A-650 (west-east), A-61 (north-south), A-6, A-65, B-9.
The city is also known for its large-sized nature parks, including Ebertpark, Stadtpark, Riedsaumpark, Friesenpark, Pfingstweide, Mundenheim.
