MV Mahabaahu Review
Review of MV Mahabaahu
MV Mahabaahu was built in Calcutta (Kolkata), India and launched in 2011. She is among the newest, largest, and most luxurious river ships in India.
For two years (2018–2019), Mahabaahu was chartered by Pandaw Expeditions and operated as a partner vessel.
The riverboat has cruised along the Brahmaputra River since January 2011. The voyage begins at Mansarovar Lake, situated in the shadow of Mount Kailash in Tibet. The Brahmaputra is the world’s third-largest river, known by various names: Tsangpo (in Tibet), Siang (in Arunachal Pradesh), Padma (in Bangladesh), and Brahmaputra (in Assam, India).

Passengers aboard Mahabaahu enjoy an unforgettable journey on the majestic Brahmaputra, surrounded by abundant wildlife and framed by the Himalayan foothills. Whether sailing for 3, 5, or 7 nights, upstream or downstream, travellers are captivated by Northeastern India’s landscapes and tribal cultures. Guests can choose from a range of stateroom configurations, all outfitted with the comforts needed for a relaxing voyage.
Continental and Indian cuisine is served in the ship’s elegant restaurant. Meals are prepared by attentive staff and enjoyed in a bright, airy dining room styled with colonial-era touches, wooden accents, and classic planter’s chairs. Evenings often feature guest lectures or traditional tribal performances. Warm weather can be enjoyed on the riverboat’s sundeck or in the outdoor pool. Fully supervised shore excursions, led by experienced officers, allow travellers to explore the region in depth. Guests seeking relaxation may enjoy board games, browse the library, or unwind in the health spa with indulgent treatments.
The ship also carries two tender boats (each with a capacity of 32 seats) that double as lifeboats. They are individually named and positioned aft on Main Deck 2 (“Rudra Singha”) and Pool Deck 3 (“Gadadhar Singha”). Both boats are used for passenger tendering during shore excursions and for boat safaris.
