RV Anawrahta Review
Review of RV Anawrahta
RV Anawrahta cruise ship is owned by Heritage Line and operated by its subsidiary company (and brand) Jahan Cruises. In the Heritage Line fleet, Anawrahta’s sisterships are RV Jayavarman (aka Mekong Explorer, 2009-built), RV Jahan (2010), and RV Anouvong (2019).
Anawrahta cruises on the Irrawaddy River with departures from the homeports of Bagan, Yangon, and Mandalay. The riverboat is named after the founder of the Burmese nation, King Anawrahta (born in 1014). His dynasty lasted 33 years (1044-1077), marking a period of the spread of Theravada Buddhism throughout Myanmar. Today, RV Anawrahta is considered one of the most beautiful cruise vessels on the Irrawaddy River. She is widely regarded as a premier choice for a luxury river cruise in Burma, offering some of the market’s largest cabins and one of the highest crew-to-passenger ratios.

Heritage Line was established in 2008 to provide luxury river cruises between Vietnam and Cambodia. The company is a Swiss-Vietnamese joint venture headquartered in Vietnam. The fleet consists of classic, traditionally designed and built riverboats, each decorated with unique colonial-style, handcrafted furnishings. RV Anawrahta is a remarkable vessel designed to resemble a British Colonial paddle steamer.
The ship’s largest accommodations are the two Royal Suites, named after King Anawrahta and his son Kyansitta. Each suite features a private Jacuzzi and a large terrace, along with elegant wood carvings, handmade artifacts, and Burmese artwork.

The 141 m2 (1518 ft2) Hintha Hall Restaurant is located on the Terrace Deck and can accommodate all passengers at once. Its design draws inspiration from the magnificent decorative styles of ancient Mandalay and Bagan, evoking the grandeur of historic dining halls. The restaurant features gleaming glassware, crisp white tablecloths, polished wood accents, and panoramic views framed by large picture windows.
The ship’s Thaizin Spa offers elegant decor, professional service, and locally inspired treatments in tranquil surroundings. Facilities include three massage beds and a steam bath, providing an ideal setting for relaxation.
