Volcan de Tamasite ferry Wiki

The vessel Volcan de Tamasite's previous owner was Jandia Naviera (between 2004-2008). The company Naviera Armas SA acquired it in 2008. Its cargo capacity is 1350 lane meters, allowing storage for 300 cars or 80 trailers/trucks. The cruiseferry is named after the Battle of Tamasite (Batalla de Tamasite). In 1740, English pirates attacked twice Fuerteventura Island landing both times at Gran Tarajal Bay. The local militia (though poorly armed) formed an effective defense. During the first attack, from the 50 pirates, 30 were killed and 20 taken prisoners and shipped to Tenerife Island. During the second attack, all the 300 pirates were brutally killed (with clubs and stones) and no prisoners were taken. The attacks coincided with the Spanish-British war of 1739-1748 (Guerra del Asiento, commonly known as War of Jenkins' Ear) fought mainly in the Caribbean and New Granada in South America (current-day territories of Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela).

The NAVIERA ARMAS Tamasite ship was built by Barreras Shipyard (Vigo, Spain). Its powerplant is based on two WARTSILA marine diesel engines (model 8L46C) with combined power output 16,8 KW. The propulsion system is based on two controllable pitch propellers.
