Review of Sea Cloud II

The cruise ship Sea Cloud II is owned by Sea Cloud Cruises and entered service in 2001. The vessel is a replica of Sea Cloud, another luxurious yacht of the company's fleet. The ship combines the elegance of the sailing ships and tradition, luxury and comfort of the modern cruise ships. The first ship of the Sea Cloud Cruises was a success, and for that reason the company took a decision to introduce one more similar vessel.

History - construction & ownership

The 3,849-ton, 94-passenger cruise ship Sea Cloud II is a newly built vessel, while Sea Cloud was built long time ago, in 1931. The cruise ship was constructed by the Austrian shipbuilder Astilleros Gondán, SA and the keel laying ceremony took place on 24 June 1998. The delivery of the Sea Cloud II was delayed due to demands from the owner about interior fitout. The ship was christened in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, on 6 February 2001.

Cruise itinerary program

Sea Cloud II schedule calendar includes Canary Islands, Mediterranean and Baltic cruises in Europe during summer, and Caribbean cruises departing from Barbados during winter months. Transatlantic repositioning crossings are offered between Europe and Caribbean.

Cabins

MV Sea Cloud II has four passenger decks (out of five) and only 47 cabins, all of which outside. The number of decks on the ship is 5. The bridge deck's purpose is to serve as a sun deck behind the superstructure. The material used for the construction of the hull is standard shipbuilding steel plus 8 watertight bulkheads. The two owner suites are privately tucked away on ship's lido deck, and feature panoramic windows. The promenade deck offers 16 junior suites and 2 deluxe outer cabins, also with panoramic windows. The 27 deluxe outer cabins have traditional portholes.

Dining options - Food & Drinks

Food and service are exceptional, and meals are often served on deck. Dinner is served in ship’s dining room from a fixed menu. Menus have European influence, though the cuisine is sometimes tempered by the nationality of guests onboard. The most exciting part of the day is an afternoon snack on the promenade deck of Sea Cloud 2 ship. The baker prepares a new treat each day, including waffles with ice cream, an elaborate afternoon tea or crepes to order. Complimentary wine flows freely at meals.

Entertainment options - Fun & Sport

The most remarkable feature of Sea Cloud II is her three masts and twenty-three sails. The Sea Cloud II square-rigger has a main-mast (57 m above deck), mizzen-mast and fore-mast. Her sails have a total area of 3,000 m2 (32,000 sq ft). Unlike the other modern, operated electronically cruise ships, all sail setting on Sea Cloud 2 is done by hand. 65 crew members perform dazzling acrobatics, suspended over the ocean.
