Elyros ferry Wiki

The vessel’s previous owners were Blue Highway Line (1998-2007) and MOL Ferry Company (2002-2007). She was delivered to Blue Highway Line in 1998 under the name “Sun Flower Tsukuba.” Her powerplant consists of two NKK-Pielstick marine diesel engines (model PC4-24, combined output 21.2 MW) and three auxiliary engines (Daihatsu 6DL-26, combined output 3 MW). Propulsion is provided by two controllable pitch propellers.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) at its Nagasaki shipyard also built the cruise ferry Blue Horizon (1987, BLUE STAR FERRIES) as well as the large cruise liners AIDAperla (2017), AIDAprima (2016), Diamond Princess (2004), Sapphire Princess (2004), and Asuka 2 (1990).

Between August and September 2007-2008, the Danish company Knud E. Hansen (naval architects/marine engineers) carried out a major drydock conversion on MS Elyros. The works included repainting of the hull and superstructure, machinery upgrades, and a full redesign and refurbishment of all staterooms, venues, and public spaces.

ANEK LINES inaugurated its Piraeus-Chania service in September 2018, with daily departures from Piraeus-Athens at 9 pm and from Chania (Crete Island) at 10 pm. The route is operated in partnership with BLUE STAR FERRIES. When chartered by Algerie Ferries during the summer, Elyros serves France-Algeria and Spain-Algeria routes: Marseille-Algiers (23 hours) and Alicante-Algiers (10 hours).
