MS Charles Dickens

MS Charles Dickens cruise ship (built in 2015) is a sistership to MS William Shakespeare (2014) and is operated under charter by the UK-based cruise tour company Riviera Travel. Her itineraries cover the Rhine, Moselle, and Danube rivers. The riverboat is owned by the Swiss company Scylla Cruises.

Shipboard amenities

The vessel features a spacious Lobby (entrance hall on the Upper Deck) with a Tour-Reception Desk providing 24-hour assistance, information, purser services, and details on tours and excursions, as well as a Library and a Boutique Shop. From the entrance hall, guests can access the forward Bar Lounge, which offers floor-to-ceiling windows, comfortable seating, and a full-service bar.

Aft on the Upper Deck is the Bar Bistro—also referred to as the Lido Restaurant—serving as an alternative to the main Dining Room. The Bistro has its own bar and an outdoor terrace, where early breakfast, light lunch, and dinner are served. In good weather, the floor-to-ceiling doors open fully to the terrace for al fresco dining. Bistro dining is complimentary, but dinner reservations are required due to the limited capacity (24 seats). The ship’s main Dining Room (on the Middle Deck) offers single-seating service for buffet breakfast and waiter-served lunch and dinner.

On the Lower Deck, the ship’s Wellness Centre includes a Hair Salon (hairdresser, barber, and nail services), a Fitness Room (Gym), and a Sauna. All cabin decks are fully air-conditioned and accessible by both lift and staircase.

The Sun Deck features an aft deck games area with a giant chess set and mini-golf/putting green, retractable awnings for shaded seating, a forward pool area with a Jacuzzi, and a sunbathing zone equipped with loungers and deckchairs. There is also an open-air lounge with four-seat tables and full bar service. The forward-located Navigation Bridge (known as the “Wheelhouse” on riverboats) is passenger-accessible and telescopic, allowing it to be lowered for passing under low bridges.

Cabins

Most Charles Dickens staterooms feature wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto a railing (French Balcony). The only exceptions are Lower Deck cabins, which have one fixed, non-opening window located near the ceiling.

• All staterooms offer hotel-style twin beds (convertible to double), an en-suite bathroom (WC, shower, single-sink vanity, towels, bath toiletries, large mirror), a 40-inch flat HDTV (satellite reception, infotainment system, bow camera real-time views), a mini-bar, tea/coffee-making facilities, a glass-top round table with two armchairs, a mirrored dressing table with pouffe chair, wardrobe, electronic safe box, hairdryer, phone, individually controlled air conditioning, and evening turndown service.
• All cabin bathrooms feature marble countertops, glass showers with large rain showerheads, and premium bath products by Crabtree and Evelyn.
• Some staterooms are available for single occupancy without a supplement (subject to availability).
• Deluxe Balcony Suites (on Diamond Deck) offer larger living space, a step-out balcony furnished with a table and two chairs suitable for al fresco dining, as well as premium cotton bathrobes and slippers.
