MS Filia Rheni II Review

Review of MS Filia Rheni II

The 1999-built cruise ship Se Manon (formerly MS Filia Rheni II) was originally launched as “Viking Danube.” In 2013, the vessel underwent a full refurbishment and was chartered exclusively by Saga Cruises UK until 2020.

Viking Danube was one of eight ships in the Viking River Cruises fleet, all entering service between 1999 and 2001 and offering all-inclusive packages that covered airfare and shore excursions.

In 2020, the vessel (ENI number 4608050) was renamed from FILIA RHENI II to SE MANON. Its MMSI identification number was changed from 244790021 to 244316200. The ship sails under the Dutch flag and is currently registered in Dordrecht.

The ship features 71 deluxe cabins divided into three categories: A, B, and C. A-category cabins are located on the Upper Deck, B-category on the Middle Deck, and C-category on the Main Deck. All Viking Danube cabins are outside-facing and measure 150 ft² (14 m²). A and B cabins offer superb river views through wall-to-wall picture windows, while C cabins have half-height picture windows. Cabin amenities include hotel-style beds, satellite TV, telephone, bathroom with shower and hairdryer, in-room safe, and individually controlled air conditioning.

The top deck provides an ideal alfresco area to enjoy the scenic river landscapes. Both lounges feature panoramic windows, allowing guests to admire the views while enjoying a drink. The observation lounge offers a peaceful setting for reading or checking emails. The Sun Deck is partially shaded, with sun loungers available for relaxation in any weather. Guests may also visit the fitness area, unwind in the sauna, or cool off in the pool or Jacuzzi.

The full-capacity restaurant (150 seats) is located on the Middle Deck and serves buffet-style breakfasts, waiter-served three-course lunches, and four-course dinners with a choice of main courses. Complimentary beer, wine, and soft drinks are offered with lunch and dinner, while tea and coffee are available throughout the day in the Bar. A light lunch buffet is also served daily in the Bar Lounge.

The lift connects the ship’s Middle and Upper Decks, while a chair lift provides access between the Lobby (Reception area), Upper Deck cabins, and the Sun Deck.
