MV Misty Fjord Review

Review of MV Misty Fjord

The 1997-built MV Misty Fjord cruise ship is custom-designed for Southeast Alaska's wilderness exploration and close-to-coast navigation. The hull is based on a commercial fishing boat design for better stability and comfort while cruising the Inside Passage Alaska waterways. The vessel is owned and operated by the Sitka-based small-ship travel company Alaskan Dream Cruises/fleet.

The vessel is currently USA-flagged (MMSI 367740220) and registered in Seattle WA.

The onboard experience features plush interiors with elegant teak finishes, spacious Wheelhouse (Navigation Bridge), aft salon, and an outer deck that is engineered for optimum wildlife viewing. With just 10 passengers (and up to 12 on charters), MV Misty Fjord provides in-depth wilderness exploration via modern amenities for onboard relaxing.

The boat is powered by two John Deere diesel engines (output 526 HP) featuring good fuel efficiency and low emissions. These engines are EPA Tier 11 compliant and meet both the IMO (International Maritime Organization) emission standards and the standards of European Recreational Craft Directive. For comfort and efficiency, the ship usually cruise at “hull speed”. Having 2 engines adds additional safety, as well.

Decks and Cabins

There are 2 passenger decks and all 5 staterooms, most of which (4) are on the Main Deck and named Chatham (with full-size bed) Neva, Windham, and Rowan. Each is fitted with 2 single beds.

The Lower Deck houses 1 cabin (named Cosmo) equipped with a full-size double bed.

Each of the cabins has a private shower and toilet.

Shipboard facilities

The Alaskan Dream Cruises' Misty Fjord ship has the ambiance of an Alaskan fishing ship but also has the comfort of a contemporary small yacht. The boat's profile and arrangement have been created especially for small group wilderness cruising. An aft deck drying room offers a place to hang rain gear and ensure a dry start the next morning.

Misty Fjord was specifically designed with both a salon lounge and dining area for passenger comfort. There is a self-service buffet counter set up to provide snacks and beverages. The ship's chef pampers with healthy gourmet meals via the availability of fresh Alaskan seafood, like halibut, salmon, shrimp and crab.
