MV Misty Fjord Review

Review of MV Misty Fjord

The 1997-built MV Misty Fjord cruise ship is custom-designed for Southeast Alaska’s wilderness exploration and close-to-shore navigation. Her hull is based on a commercial fishing vessel design, providing enhanced stability and comfort while sailing the Inside Passage. The ship is owned and operated by the Sitka-based small-ship company Alaskan Dream Cruises.

The vessel is currently USA-flagged (MMSI 367740220) and registered in Seattle, WA.

IMPORTANT: In February 2026, Alaskan Dream Cruises issued a notice on its website stating that it had “ceased business operations and will no longer be operating future sailings”. The parent company, Allen Marine Tours Inc, will continue its day-tour and maritime services in Alaska.

Onboard, guests enjoy plush interiors with elegant teak finishes, a spacious Wheelhouse (Navigation Bridge), an aft salon, and an outer deck engineered for optimal wildlife viewing. With a capacity of just 10 passengers (up to 12 on private charters), MV Misty Fjord offers an intimate wilderness experience complemented by comfortable modern amenities.

The vessel is powered by two John Deere diesel engines (526 HP combined), offering good fuel efficiency and low emissions. These engines meet EPA Tier II requirements, IMO emission standards, and the European Recreational Craft Directive. For optimal comfort and efficiency, the ship typically cruises at “hull speed.” The twin-engine configuration also provides added safety.

Decks and Cabins

The vessel has two passenger decks and five staterooms, four of which are located on the Main Deck. These are named Chatham (with a full-size bed), Neva, Windham, and Rowan (each with two single beds).

The Lower Deck houses one cabin, Cosmo, which is fitted with a full-size double bed.

All cabins have private showers and toilets.

Shipboard facilities

Misty Fjord blends the ambiance of a classic Alaskan fishing vessel with the comfort of a contemporary small yacht. Her profile and interior arrangement are purpose-built for small-group wilderness cruising. An aft deck drying room provides space to hang rain gear, ensuring a warm, dry start each morning.

The ship features a salon lounge and a dining area for guest comfort. A self-service buffet counter offers snacks and beverages throughout the day. The ship’s chef prepares healthy gourmet meals, highlighting fresh Alaskan seafood such as halibut, salmon, shrimp, and crab.

MV Misty Fjord Wiki

For the 2018 season, shipowner Alaskan Dream Cruises introduced on Misty Fjord a new 5-night itinerary titled “Alaska’s Spring Wilderness and Wildlife Safari,” operating roundtrip from Sitka, AK. Daily activities were planned by the local captain and the ship’s naturalist, and included wildlife viewing, sea kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, visiting Goddard Hot Springs, and touring the St. Lazaria Island Wildlife Refuge. The cruise fare was USD 3290 per person (double occupancy), inclusive of all excursions, a pre-cruise Sitka tour, and airport transfers. Departures were offered in March 2018 (17, 24, 31) and April 2018 (7, 14).

For the 2019 season, Alaskan Dream Cruises received permission for Misty Fjord to spend two days in Glacier Bay. The 8-day itinerary, themed “Alaska’s Islands, Whales and Glaciers,” is also available for private charter. The voyage has no fixed route, allowing the captain to maximize outdoor recreation time so passengers can fully enjoy sea kayaking, hiking, and wildlife viewing in Glacier Bay National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
